The City of Tucson, in partnership with ESD proudly announced the arrival of Tucson’s first electric garbage truck. City of Tucson Mayor Regina Romero and Carlos De la Torre, Director of Environmental Services, hosted a special event to celebrate this milestone in the city’s commitment to a greener future.
Residents and members of the media were invited to attend the unveiling event, where city leaders provided insights into the benefits of electrifying the city’s fleet vehicles and the broader impact on the community. Remarks from the Mayor and De la Torre were followed by the truck unveiling.
“Our first electric garbage truck is a major step forward for our City" said Tucson Mayor Regina Romero. "Transitioning our environmental services fleet from diesel to CNG, or electric is helping us reduce emissions, improve air quality for residents and operators alike, and transition us to more sustainable city operations. This is another way the City of Tucson is leading by example. Since Mayor and Council passed the EV Readiness Roadmap in 2021, Tucson is proud to have the largest electric bus fleet in the Southwest and we are working hard to also transition our light duty fleet to electric by 2030."
The new truck, fully powered by electricity, eliminates emissions, reduces noise pollution, and offers long-term cost savings on fuel and maintenance. It will be deployed in residential waste collection routes, showcasing its efficiency and reliability in daily operations.
